By order of the Joint Venture STREICHER and Bohlen Doyen DrillTec executed three horizontal directional drillings DN 900 in the Natural Gas Storage Facility Jemgum. In only two months, DrillTec completed three drillings with a length of 1,528 m, 1,663 m and 1,716 m in an ecological sensitive landscape protected area. For this operation, two new drilling rigs constructed by STREICHER Drilling Technology were used at the same time. Besides the short project period, also the changing geological conditions, long access roads and heavy rainfall were challenging for the project team. With 33 caverns, one of the largest Natural Gas Storage Systems in Germany has been developed in Jemgum. The
capacity of approx. 2.2 bn Nm³ is sufficient in order to ensure the yearly natural gas supply for more than one million households in Germany.
